PTA Fund Raising Information
There are three groups at Norman Rockwell Elementary who do fundraising:
- Sixth grade
- Student council
- PTA
This guide is meant to help parents understand which group is responsible for each fundraiser and the goals of each of these groups. There are also ways you can help the school directly through the school rebate programs.
School Rebate Programs
The following are wonderful and easy ways to support Norman Rockwell. All monies go directly to the school. The staff collectively decides how to spend this money.
Community Partners: There are a few local retailers that offer a rebate program, where a certain percentage of your purchase is donated back to the school, at no cost to you. At these local stores, just mention “Norman Rockwell” when checking out!
- Grab Bag Party Store in Kirkland – offers a 5% rebate on all purchases
- Office Depot – offers a 5% rebate on all purchases
- Target - If you have a Target Visa or Target Guest Card, register Norman Rockwell as your school of choice, and the school will receive 1% of your purchases.
- Foster Farms Fostering Education Program: Enter the code from the Foster Farms Chicken labels on the website (www.fosteringeducation.com) or call 1-800-249-8402.
- Ink Cartridge and Cell Phone Recycling: Deposit in the box in the office.
- Verizon Extra Credit for Schools: If you have Verizon long distance service, call 1-800-483-3737 to enroll. Verizon will donate 5% of your monthly charges, to the school at no cost to you.
WaMoola for Schools: If you have a Washington Mutual Visa Check Card, go to www.wamoolaforschools.com to enroll or call 1-866-WAMOOLA.
Sixth Grade Fundraising
Each year in the spring, the sixth graders go to the Outdoor and Environmental Education program at YMCA Camp Seymour. The classes are designed to enhance the Washington State Essential Learning Standards. This program costs $92 per student. Each family must cover $40 of this cost. The rest of the money is raised through various fundraisers throughout the year.
- Licorice is sold on Wednesdays
- Pizza cards are sold in the fall
- Ecology Run is hosted in the spring
- Cookie Dough is sold in the spring
Student Council Fundraising
Every year the student council decides on the goal of their fundraising efforts. Last year the student council donated $1,800 to the school to purchase playground equipment. The student council has several different fundraisers. Some remain the same each year, and sometimes new ones are added.
- Popcorn is sold on Fridays
- Pucker-Ups are sold for Valentines’ Day
- Box Tops are collected throughout the year
- Talent Show occurs in the spring
Last year the student council also organized the basketball game between Norman Rockwell and Einstein Elementary. This was a very successful fundraiser where everyone had a good time. There have been some discussions about hosting a golf tournament in the Spring of 2006.
PTA Fundraising
The PTA is a non-profit organization whose members work for the health, welfare, safety and education of the children at Norman Rockwell. The goal each year is to:
- Sustain ongoing programs
- Provide enrichment grants for each grade level and for many specialists
- Maintain the Susan Tobey Scholarship Fund*
- Provide stipends for teachers
- Fund capital requests from the staff
*The Susan Tobey Scholarship Fund was formerly known as the Success Fund. This fund can cover certain school related fees that present a hardship for some families. The office staff can help supply further details.
The programs that the PTA fully funds without any fees required from the participants or beneficiaries to the PTA are as follows:
Fully Funded PTA Programs/Events/Services
Emergency Preparedness Art Docent Supplies
Hospitality Art Docent Field Trips New Family Welcome Assemblies
PTA Babysitting Reading Recognition
Reflections Retirement Gifts
Field Day Salmon in the Classroom
Sixth Grade Graduation Science Center Education Van
Sixth Grade Memory Book Student Directory**
Recognition of service for Safety Patrol Turkey Trot/Jingle Jog
Welcome Back Luncheon Young Authors
Volunteer Tea Rockwell Bugle
**The PTA splits this cost with the school. Each family receives one free. Any additional copies are sold depending on availability.
In the 2005-2006 school year, the PTA will create a restricted fund whereby a predetermined percentage of money from the fall fundraisers will be set aside to be used specifically for playground improvements. The playground committee is in the process of meeting with landscape architects and district personnel to identify the next phase of improvements.
There are two major fundraisers which occur in the fall.
- Pass the Hat takes place during Curriculum Night (with donations accepted for an additional two/three weeks.) This is a direct donation fundraiser. It is the easiest and most efficient way to support Norman Rockwell in that 100% of the money donated goes directly to the PTA to support the above-mentioned programs.
- Gift Wrap Sale will run for two weeks in Septem ber. This is a great fundraiser for those who love the quality gift wrap and products Innisbrook offers. The PTA retains 50% of the proceeds.
Other minor fundraisers are:
- PTA “Dines Out” occurs periodically throughout the year. It is a wonderful program that serves many purposes. It encourages Rockwell families to have dinner together, it increases business for local restaurant owners during the week, and it raises money for your PTA!
- Carnival happens in the spring. Its main goal is to bring Rockwell families together to have a good time.
The PTA also organizes a charitable event annually, designed to encourage the students to work together to make a difference in the community.
- Kids Care donations last year went to the Tsunami Relief.
