Spelling List choices for Week of 05-06-08

 Note:  You are to choose from five to ten words that you will study and learn how to spell for the spelling test on Friday.  You are to complete a pre-test and then study for the test on Friday.  You are then expected to attach the pre-test and post-test to each other so that you can demonstrate improvement.

Revision (N)           The revision step in the writing process is the most important.

Descend (V)           The young lady descended the staircase with such grace.

Infrastructure (N)            The city’s infrastructure needed updating.

Extravagant (adj)             The extravagant shopper quickly got himself into

serious debt.

Compromise (N or Verb)          The golden rule is a compromise of saying                                                 anything that comes to one’s mind and not saying                                              a word.

The teenager decided fitting in was not worth compromising her principles.

Watery (adjective)           Crab fisherman who work in the aggressive whether run the risk of being sent to a watery grave.

Limitation (N)        It is important not to be restricted by one’s limitations but to know what they are.

 

Stereotype (N)       The print was created through a process of stereotyping.

Operate (verb)      Their propaganda is beginning to operate on the minds of the citizenry.

Corrosive (adj)      Poverty is corrosive on entire communities of people.
