Welcome to the Redmond Junior High website!  We hope it holds the necessary information for our visitors, but understand that in no way can it contain every question and answer.  Please contact us by phone with any questions that remain at (425) 885-7034.

RJH is more than the average school.  We work hard to make each day meaningful for each child, for they only have that one day in seventh, eighth or ninth grade to learn and excel.  Our students are consistently challenged with a rigorous curriculum, given high levels of support from staff and offered a wide variety of extracurricular opportunities.  Our staff is dedicated to improving student learning, are professionals in their fields and care deeply for each student as an individual.  Our parents and community are incredibly supportive and share our passion for education and the growth of our students.  Our facility, which opened in 2001, is a beautiful architectural building, but the wonderful people at RJH make the structure come alive.

Junior high is a time of personal growth and new experiences for many of our students.  We urge them to come to school everyday, follow the rules and do your best work everyday.  Helping students mature and develop their own interests, talents and responsibilities brings joy to my work.

In the last four years, we have seen school-wide attendance statistics consistently improve due to clarified expectations, ongoing communication between school and home, and hard work from Carol Underwood (Attendance Secretary), Amy John (BECCA Coordinator) and our volunteer parent staff for the Safe Arrival Program.  Our discipline system has also seen decreased numbers of violations, harassment issues and suspensions.  We believe that all students should be supervised at all times and this commitment in classrooms, computer labs, hallways and the cafeteria have helped make students feel that Redmond Junior is a safe environment.  I am especially thankful for the contributions of Scott Hagerman, Nick Lovell, Russell Rogers, Greg Jensen and our entire staff for keeping a watchful eye on our student population.  We also welcome back to RJH with much excitement, our School Resource Officer (SRO) from the Redmond Police Department, Officer Bill Corson who will continue a long relationship with our community in this role.

Our student activity and athletics programs have been thriving under the new leadership of Chris Broderick (ASB) and Julie Lynd (Athletics).  We believe our students should have a multitude of engaging experiences and opportunities, with high quality equipment, uniforms and guidance in both programs.  Our club advisors and coaching staff are dedicated to making sure each student has a positive experience, has fun and grows as an individual.  While academics always comes first, we love to see our students excelling in competition, leading by example, practicing good sportsmanship and making lifelong memories.

A strong academic experience is the key to a truly successful school.  We have seen positive growth each year in a number of areas throughout the school, but are constantly working to improve our craft.  Our departments have done some excellent work in building literacy across the curriculum, examining and crafting subject specific “Power Standards” for our district from the Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements, introducing our students to new technology and applications, and have been working with district colleagues to study, select and implement new textbook materials.

The Lake Washington School District’s vision of “Every Student Future Ready: Prepared for college, for the global workplace, for personal success” is a worthy direction for our energy and work.  We expect that through outstanding teaching, we will be able to nurture and guide the learning of each student toward this district goal.  Please join us in this mission to helping our students grow and progress each day toward graduation.
