Conflict Painting Gallery
"Anger vs. tranquility...Ready and Fight"
by
Jenifer Blanton
Acrylic paint on gessoed paper, 16 by 20 inches, 2003.

Paiting Reflection

In the piece, the conflict represented by the symbols is the fight between anger and tranquility. Although anger, represented by the boxing gloves, seems to be the majority there is still the slight hope of tranquility, represented by the sleeping dog. The dog, in the mists of all of the boxing gloves, still finds time to rest. The conflict felt not only by me, but also by many others. The finding of time to rest with so much anger in the world is difficult, but not impossible.
The established dominance of majority is the many boxing gloves around the left and right sides of the piece. The emphasis of minority is the one sleeping dog lying on top of the boxing glove in the bottom right third of the piece.
The contrast structure represented in the piece is direction. The boxing gloves are all coming from the right and left with the right third of the piece as what is being pointed to. The dog is being pointed at by a small boxing glove on the bottom left so as to represent direction towards the dog.
