Conflict Painting Gallery
"Heading in the Wrong Direction"
by
Skye Armstrong
Acrylic paint on gessoed paper, 16 by 20 inches, 2003.

Painting Reflection

In this painting, which I call “Heading in the Wrong Direction. The conflict is represented by the two candles, which symbolize energy. I feel that I have a major lack of energy in my life, which is what I was trying to show to those who viewed my painting. There can be seen an over whelming amount of showerheads in “Heading in the Wrong Direction”, which represent the “washing-out” of my life. What I mean by this is that I feel that much of my life is washed-out, or boring. The contrast structures I used in this were: gravity, position and direction. Gravity is shown with the candles. Position is shown with the conflicting ways the showerheads; they’re both facing opposite ways. Meanwhile there is also a sense of direction, since all of the showerheads on the bottom are facing the same general way. It’s the same for the showerheads at the top of the painting.
