Cloud Paintings

You will begin by defining the contour edge of the image you are studying. An edge may be created by a change in color, shape, texture, value, line, or form. In the case of clouds, it is generally created by a change in value.

Contrast is greatest next to an edge, therefore, when the edge is identified and isolated the painting will begin from that point.

Visually identify shape, texture, value, color, and form edges

t

Place a smooth and continuous line along these edges, this CONTOUR line
may define the inside of a form as well as the outline.

Contrast is always greatest next to an edge, as you paint, you will work
away from the defining contour line. The defining edge will eventually
disappear, to be replaced by changes in value, texture, color, shape or form.

Visually identify all of the various hues and values, make a painting sampler

Make a value and analogous color sampler
Start with 3 rows - the center row is for your main hue

I chose blue - I placed an analogous color in the rows above and below
Green below and purple above
The left side of the sampler is for tints and the right side for shades

You may make decisions about hue, saturation and value. Try to develop a
texture as you roll your brush and work wet paint into wet paint.
