How is color created?
The artist uses line and cross hatching to blend color.
Directional line is used to create a sense of 3 dimensionality and form.
Notice
the transitions in value
This is a complementary color scheme - orange and blue, opposites on the
color wheel.
|
This
is also a complementary color scheme - orange and blue, opposites on the
color wheel
Indigo
blue is used to create darker values on the fruit
The white you are seeing is the white of the paper showing through the
stroke.
A tint is a color added to white - when using color pencil you must leave
white rather than add it in later.
You
need to plan ahead and work from light, gradually to dark.
|
Notice the slightly
grainy texture of this drawing?
How
what this achieved?
This
is primarily a monochromatic color scheme (one color or value). The organ
ge and red were added to establish a focal point and to create visual
movement throughout the composition.
Notice that contrast (or difference) is most obvious at the edge of a
shape.
|
How did the artist
achieve texture in this piece?
Does the direction of the individual stroke influence the final piece?
Does
contrast influence the illusion of depth?
Notice the areas of overlapping shape, why do some areas appear to recede
back in space and other pull to the foreground? |
This piece appears very dark and saturated, the artist has sealed the
surface of the paper in some areas by using a great deal of pressure.
Once
the surface is sealed it is not possible to add additional colors or erase
out colors to lighten the value.
This is an analogous color scheme (neighbors on the color wheel).
Indigo
blue, purple, dark green and brown have been used to create dark values.
Tints were created
using a very light pressure and allowing the white of the paper to show
through. |
Notice
the direction
of the color pencil lines help to define the 3 dimensionality of the surface.
There are spaces between each line which allows for color mixing after the
general shape and flow have been established.
This is primarily a monochromatic color scheme with dark brown used for
shadows and yellow used for highlights. |
