About the Guidance and Counseling Program

The Juanita and Samantha Smith Elementary Schools’ guidance and counseling program is a comprehensive framework of services that support and enhance student learning.  Our framework is derived from the American School Counselor Association’s standards and provides:

A foundation that builds the academic, personal/social and career development of all students.

A delivery model that includes guidance lessons, interventions, individual planning and on-going support for all students.

A management system that is guided by a Counselor Advisory Council comprised of teachers, parents, an administrator, a school board member and a legislative representative. Planning for the guidance and counseling program is determined by data that is collected and analyzed to support student learning.

An accountability system that reports students’ progress to the school and to the community.

Our schools also practice the five principles of peace from the PeaceBuilders program.  We believe that children learn best in a school climate that:

Praises People

Gives Up Put-Downs

Seeks Wise People

Notices Hurts and Rights Wrongs

Helps Others

We have wonderful support from our community.  Below are some of the organizations that make our schools great!

PTA

Eastside League of Women (Operation School Bell)

Youth Eastside Services and Seattle Mental Health

Fred Meyer and Windermere Realty who has partnered with us in providing; shoes, socks and food during the holiday.
