What is Improv Night? How do we structure the show to guarantee a night of high-class comedy? We base our performance on the playbook from Unexpected Productions, Seattle Theatre Sports. Teams of improvisers compete against each other in a variety of rule-based games with suggestions from the audience. There is a host, a panel of judges, great music and non-stop laughter in this fast paced test of comic timing, teamwork and ability.
How does improvisation and Theatre Sports fit into our educational theatre program? We use improvisation in theatre arts to build the complex set of skills needed for students to be successful in rehearsal and in performance. Improvisation training frees the imagination, teaches discipline, expands vocal and physical dexterity, creates commitment to a team, and demands a willingness to lean forward and say ‘yes’ to ideas.
