Goals & Objectives The goal of this course is to continue to build on the language structure learned in Spanish I. Spanish II reviews and extends year I structures, stressing the four basic skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking. Students will incorporate grammar and vocabulary into reading, writing and conversation in a more advanced level. They will engage in dialogues and conversations in order to practice speaking. Instruction will be mostly in Spanish. Class Standards and Grading Oral Participation: It is a Must in learning language and will make up approximately 25% of your grade. You need to speak in Spanish and participate on a daily basis. You will receive five points each week if you actively engage in conversation by using new vocabulary words and idiomatic expressions. I encourage your to practice with your classmates and Spanish speaking friends. Homework: Have homework ready to be handed in or checked at the beginning of class. Five to ten points will be given for each homework assignment. Compositions will be worth twelve to twenty points. No partial points will be given for late work. If you happen to forget one or two assignments, it will not affect your grade tremendously, but if you are aiming for a high grade in the class, you must be consistent and return all your work on time. It is your responsibility to write down your homework on the assignment sheet provided for this class. Homework will count for approximately 35% of your grade. Exams: Grammar quizzes and exams will be based on the percent correct. You will be able to make up tests only if your absence from class was excused (illness, sports, or school activity). Make-up exams will be given after school during the week following the absence. It is responsibility to make arrangements with the teacher! Final Semester Grade Quizzes, tests and final exams will constitute approximately 50% of your final grade. The total accumulated points divided by the total possible points available to the class will determine your grade. Grading Scale: Grades assigned as follows rounded to the nearest whole percent.
