Learning a Foreign  Language

Research has shown that math and verbal SAT scores improve with each additional year of foreign language study a student undertakes.  Studying a foreign language will improve your chances for success in school and in choosing a career.  Learning grammar and vocabulary is to master only one aspect of language.  As we live in a multicultural society, understanding and appreciating other cultures is of utmost importance.

As a teacher, I will provide the necessary tools to help you learn and get excited about the language. You  may find that a world language class is different from other classes you take during the day.  Language is challenging and fun!  We maintain a brisk pace, with many different types of activities throughout the class period.

Student achievement will be assessed through chapter tests, quizzes, homework, and class participation.  Because Spanish is a participatory class, regular attendance is very important.

The most important factor in learning is ‘las ganas de aprender’ or a genuine desire to learn.  Many students face obstacles to understanding somewhere along the line.  Everything learned serves as a building block for future concepts.  If you are having difficulties, please let me know so I may provide extra help either before or after school.
