Mr. Hutchison  has been a teacher in the Lake Washington School District for 21 years at John Muir, Samantha Smith and Elizabeth Blackwell Elementary.  He has taught in the regular classroom grades 6-12 in Texas and Canada. This is the beginning of his 25th year teaching Physical Education.

His home school is Elizabeth Blackwell Elementary, but Mr. Hutchison has also taught PE as a traveling teacher at Wilder , Dickinson and Mark Twain Elementary.  For the last several years he has not had to travel.

Before settling into teaching Mr. Hutchison worked in the construction trade as a carpenter/builder.  He also enjoyed a successful track and field career which saw him travel with the Canadian National track and field team and win the Canadian Nationals in the steeplechase event.

Mr. Hutchison has a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from Washington State University and a Masters Degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of Texas at Austin.

In 2006 Mr. Hutchison was nominated for a Sammi Award by the Blackwell Community.  He has received a Golden Acorn Award from the Samantha Smith PTA.  He has been acknowledged in several newspaper/magazine articles regarding his involvement with the 100 Mile Club that he has conducted at every elementary school he has taught.  In 2007 he, along with another PE teacher in the LWSD, started a sportstacking club that has produced state champions in 2008.

Mr. Hutchison is active in his local church.  His favorite book to read/study is the Bible.  He and his wife, Shirley, enjoy a community garden in Marymoor Park, their two cats, the occasional trail hike in the Puget Sound area and crabbing at Camano Island.  Their daughter graduated from Redmond High and Western Washington University and has taught for two years in music and orchestra.

Mr. Hutchison is in various stages of enjoying his hobbies of fly fishing, saltwater fishing, birding, and collecting rocks and minerals.
