Augmentative and alternative communication includes communication boards (low tech) as well as devices (high tech). There are advantages to each, and often they are used in combination.

A communication device will provide scanning or direct selection to access pictures, words, and/or voice. This is a non-inclusive listing of devices that are in use in the Lake Washington School District.

Big Mac

A single message communicator with 20 seconds of memory. It is easy to record, or to change the recording throughout the day. The Big Mac can be used to activate a toy or appliance. It is battery operated.

AbleLink

A medium size single message communication aid with 20 seconds of memory; can connect to a toy or appliance. AbleLinks can be linked for a series of messages. It is also available with "levels" for different messages on one device. AbleLinks are battery operated.

This portable, lightweight communicator with 2" touch sensitive keypads allows 5 seconds of recorded speech per key. Both scan and switch methods of input and are easy to record. 

The Cheap Talk comes in both a linear and two-row configuration; 4 or 8 keypads.
