A Brief History of
Technology in
Lake Washington School District
Our Past
The Lake Washington School
District has been a regional leader in technology over the
past decade. District staff has participated in Navigator
training, a proficiency-based technology training initiative
focused on acquisition of basic technology skills, and
Integrator training, a collaborative technology training
initiative focused on project-based learning.
Our Present
A Spring 2004 staff survey indicates that at present, the
vast majority of teachers in the district are comfortable
using technology and excited to learn new technology if they
can see that it will improve student learning. However,
survey results also indicate that only 5% of teachers are
fully integrating technology into their daily classroom
practice at this time.
Our Future
By building upon the strengths
of the past training initiatives and analyzing the survey
feedback, a brand new technology training initiative, the
“Five Stars for Quality
Learning” was formed. The
5QL program
provides relevant technology training aligned to the domains
of professional practice and focused on the integration of
technology into the teaching and learning process. Training
will be delivered based on teachers’ needs, and classes will
be offered in Learning Communities to facilitate K-12
articulation. Classes will include specific implementation
and differentiation strategies, time for teacher
collaboration and reflection, and strategies for immediate
classroom use.
